Dave is a second generation member of the Roode family to work at HubCraft, following in his father, the founder, Carl’s footsteps and has over forty years of full-time service. He graduated from Saint Mary’s University in 1972 with a Bachelor of Commerce degree and will reach 40 years of full-time service in August 2012. Dave married the love of his life, JoAnne, in 1983 and together they have raised two wonderful children, Marissa and Matthew, who have followed Dad into the family business. Dave also has a passion for sports with his beloved teams, the Chicago Blackhawks, Cleveland Indians, and Philadelphia Phillies at the top of his list. He still holds out the hope that his Cleveland Browns are finally on their way to building that Super Bowl team he longs for. Four furry family members (Golden Retrievers) Kane, Toews, Magnuson and Teravainen also have a special place in Dave’s heart.
Fun Fact: Dave’s favourite team, the Chicago Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup in 1961 and didn’t win again until 2010, the year Dave celebrated his 61st birthday.
Marissa is part of the third generation to work at HubCraft. She loves being a part of the family business and the HubCraft team. She enjoys the busy atmosphere of working in the building supply industry coupled with the small-town feel of knowing and helping people throughout the community. Marissa enjoys a number of sports, including baseball, ball hockey, soccer, and she is the captain of her ice hockey team. In addition to playing sports, Marissa practices and teaches yoga and volunteers her time coaching minor hockey. Marissa’s other interests include hiking, kayaking, and running.
Fun Fact: Marissa had an unassisted triple play as a second baseman while playing minor league fastball.
Scott has been working at HubCraft for more than two decades and first began as a salesperson on the front counter. In 1998 HubCraft expanded their business and began offering custom designed kitchen cabinets from Island Cabinet Shop located in Cape Breton. He soon began designing and coordinating the installation of the cabinets on a full-time basis. Scott enjoys the design aspect of the business and finds it fulfilling to experience the transformation a new kitchen can provide in a new home or as an upgrade to an older home. Scott enjoys being involved in sports and continues to play hockey in the winter and races motocross in the summer. When not at the rink or at the track, he also enjoys fishing, hiking, waterskiing, and spending time at the lake.
Fun Fact: Scott has won nine regional championships and placed 9th at the Canadian nationals in Motocross.
April was drawn to the building supply industry and HubCraft by her creative and innovative nature. April realized her love of DIY projects and home renovations was pointing her toward a career in building materials! April loves helping customers make their dream bathroom (new construction or renovation!) a reality. From a young age, April has been an athlete at heart, enjoying hiking, fishing, baseball, and volleyball. April spends a lot of her time with her family and you can often find her in a gym, alongside her husband watching their daughter, Haley, playing highly competitive volleyball. Fun Fact: April is also the mom of two fur babies – Brooke and Lucy!
Jim has worked for HubCraft for almost 30 years. He very much enjoys working for the Roode family and with his coworkers. He really likes dealing with the public and meeting all of the people that working in a retail environment provides. Jim has three children: Matt, 25; Chris, 23; Ashley, 19; as well as his grandkids: A.J. and Annabeth. Jim plays baseball, volleyball, and golf throughout the summer months and as much hockey as he can in the winter.
Fun Fact: Jim has played in five National Old-Timers Baseball Tournaments across Canada.
Matt is part of the third generation to work at HubCraft. He takes passion in his customer service and ensures that every customer who walks through the door is happy and continues to come back. Matt enjoys playing sports as well as recording and writing music. When Matt is not in the studio, you can find him playing golf, baseball, football or lifting weights, wakeboarding, or fishing at his cottage.
Fun Fact: Matt has been in a music video.
Meagan has been working at HubCraft going on six years now. She came into this job with little experience regarding the industry, but she hit the ground running and is now knowledgeable in all departments of the store. Meagan finds working the contractor’s desk to be challenging and extremely rewarding. She likes how building supplies is a constantly changing industry and that there’s rarely a dull moment. Meagan enjoys horseback riding in her spare time when she’s not busy with her two little ones!
Fun Fact: Meagan has a beautiful daughter named Ava and a sweet boy named Grayson!
Brandon is yard foreman of our crew and takes standard deliveries as well as boom truck deliveries. Brandon is known for his great work ethic and knowledge - especially when it comes to fixing or maintaining vehicles. He can typically be found keeping the yard organized or helping out customers. Brandon enjoys being at home cooking up something tasty on the BBQ or relaxing and spending time with his family. Brandon is slightly outnumbered in his household, which includes his girlfriend, three adorable daughters and three dogs (all girls). He and his girlfriend are also currently expecting another - you guessed it - baby girl!
Fun Fact: Brandon regularly enters (and wins!) truck pull competitions.
Nick is our Boom Truck Operator and has been an essential part of HubCraft for nearly 15 years. Born and raised in River John, Nick regularly displays that he is a dedicated and reliable employee. Nick enjoys being one of our in-house “mechanics” and is always ready to offer a solution to any problem. At home, Nick and his wife, Melissa, have two beautiful children, Kaylee and Cole. Nick’s hobbies include working on vehicles, fixing up things around the house and snowboarding.
Fun Fact: Growing up, Nick had to fend for himself with three sisters and no brothers!
Adam has been with HubCraft for almost 8 years. A staple amongst our Yard Staff, Adam is another one of our go-to people when it comes to truck questions and maintenance. Adam drives our Cube and Flatbed Trucks and though his duties vary, his job typically involves delivering drywall or kitchens. He and his girlfriend, Nicky, recently welcomed a new addition to their young family, with the birth of their son, Blake. When not at work, Adam can be found working on the Jeep or spending quality time with his family.
Fun Fact: Adam has a black lab named Dodge.
Pete is another one of our milestone employees! Having worked at HubCraft for nearly a whopping 35 years, Pete has seen the store grow leaps and bounds from the initial HubCraft Shop on Hillcrest Avenue. Though Pete originally hails from PEI, he has called Nova Scotia home for most of his life. Pete has a son and a daughter, as well as three sweet grandchildren. In addition to spending time with his wife and family, Pete can often be found fixing, building, welding or relaxing at his cottage in Bass River.
Fun Fact: Pete has a Black Lab / Husky mix named Duke.
On a cold spring day, we found a little skinny black kitten in one of our warehouses. We took him in, gave him the medical care and nutrition that he was sadly lacking, cleaned him up and now he acts like he runs the show! Spending most of his time outside in the lumberyard or in Pete’s office on the chair, Biscuit’s two loves are his cat treats and all of the attention that he gets from staff and customers alike.
Fun Fact: Biscuit was named after Chicago Blackhawks defensemen Brent Seabrook, whose nickname is Biscuit. During the 2013 Stanley Cup Playoffs, Seabrook scored the Game 7 overtime winner against the Detroit Red Wings in the Conference Semifinals and then went on to score the overtime winner against the Boston Bruins in Game 4 of the 2013 Stanley Cup Finals. Seabrook earned his second Stanley Cup, as the Blackhawks beat the Boston Bruins in six games.
